Track FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Q: I thought my auto policy covers my car wherever I drive, is this true?
A: Most auto insurance companies have key exclusions that eliminate coverage when you take your car on a racetrack. When you’re reviewing your policy exclusions, be on the lookout for terms like “on a surface used for racing,” “at a racetrack facility” or “in a performance driving event”. Companies like Hagerty, Open Track, and Lockton Motorsports offer track insurance policies.
Q: Do I need any prior experience?
A: No prior experience is required for beginners. HPDEs do offer different run groups based on skill level and prior experience. As a first timer, you will be asked to enter the event in their novice group.
Q: Do I need a helmet?
A: Yes, a SA2015 and NEWER helmet is required. SA2015 will expire in 2025 and require an SA2020 helmet rating or newer starting in 2025. We do not rent helmets nor does the track. You must provide your own. Passengers must also be wearing a helmet.
Q: How do I prepare for the event?
A: Current Driver’s License: Valid for the State.
Helmet: GR requires Snell-rated helmets (SA2015 or newer).

Can I bring spectators and dogs?
-
Most events allow spectators, but check with the organizer for specific rules. There may be a fee.
-
Spectators will have to register separately to enter the track, and there may be a fee.
-
Not all tracks allow dogs. We do not recommend bringing them - track days are busy & noisy.
- Kids are not allowed in cold pits/paddock unless supervised by an adult. It is highly reccomended that they wear a high visibility vest when in the cold pits/paddock. Or simply stay in the AC hospitality suite.
